HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -The staff at Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources hope an activity at Kamper Park Saturday will increase awareness of children’s mental health issues.
A community fun day for families was held in recognition of National Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day.
It was hosted by Crossover Xpand, an initiative at Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources.
It assists kids identified as “Crossover Youth” who are involved with child protective services or the juvenile justice system.
“May is Mental Health Month and so, Children’s Mental Health Awareness Day is one day in the month that we specifically focus on celebrating children and breaking down the stigma, so the event is completely open to the public, so that everyone can come out just to get some information,” said Kameo Allen, social marketing coordinator for Crossover Xpand.
The event was originally scheduled for Saturday, May 11, but had to be postponed due to bad weather.
