Sumrall falls in game 1 of 4A state title series

PEARL, Miss. (WDAM) - Sumrall was on the verge of taking a 1-0 series lead in the 4A state championship, until New Hope scored six runs in the final three innings to grab an 8-7 walk-off win.

The Bobcats led 7-2 through four innings before the Trojans scored six unanswered runs.

"Just reiterated that we let it get away from us,” said Sumrall head coach Larry Knight. “But you know, we've been here in several series. I told them that, unfortunately, you're making me have this conversation every round it feels like and that happened again today. I know they'll be back ready to play tomorrow."

Sumrall battles New Hope in game two of the series on Friday at 7 p.m. in Pearl.
