Hattiesburg Hundred hosts annual sworn officer appreciation banquet

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Hattiesburg organization that provides emergency financial support for police officers and firefighters, or their families, in times of extreme need hosted an annual banquet Thursday night.

Hattiesburg Hundred held the 4th Sworn Officers Appreciation Banquet at the Lake Terrace Convention Center.

Law officers from the Forrest County Sheriff’s Department, the Hattiesburg Police Department, the Lamar County Sheriff’s Department, the Forrest Health Police Department, the University of Southern Mississippi Police Department and Troop J of the Mississippi Highway Patrol received awards.

A firefighter from the Hattiesburg Fire Department was also honored.

Hattiesburg Hundred was formed after Hattiesburg Police officers Benjamin Deen and Liquori Tate were killed in the line of duty in 2015.

Each member of the organization makes a $250 donation each year.

$200 of that goes into a fund managed by the Pinebelt Foundation.

The remaning $50 pays for expenses related to the annual banquet.
