PURVIS, MS (WDAM) - A Purvis man was sentenced Tuesday to serve 10 months in prison and three years of probation for sending sexually explicit videos to a 14-year-old girl in Illinois.
U.S. Attorney Mike Hurst said the investigation started on January 15, 2016 after a concerned mother in Salem, Ill. reported her daughter had received obscene videos showing graphic sexual content during online chats with a man named “Randy M.” The man reportedly told the teen he was 48 years old and lived in Purvis, Miss.
After further investigation, agents with the Federal Bureau of Investigation obtained a warrant to search Mark Randy Magee’s home and electronic devices. Investigators found evidence that Magee had sent graphic videos to the teen.
Hurst said Magee, 61, was indicted for transferring obscene materials to a minor under the age of 16 in September 2018. Magee pleaded guilty to the felony charge on Jan. 31, 2019.
Hurst said Magee also has a prior felony conviction for attempting to meet with a minor for sex in Ohio.
In addition to his prison sentence, U.S. District Judge Keith Starrett ordered Magee to pay $28,000 in restitution to the victim and register as a sex offender.
