WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - A Waynesboro murder suspect arrested in Ohio earlier this month is now back behind bars in Mississippi. Waynesboro Police Chief Holt Ross confirms Omni Tajor Turner has been extradited to Wayne County.

Omni was arrested by U.S. Marshals in Elyria, Ohio on May 2. He was wanted by Waynesboro police on charges of first-degree murder and two counts of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting death of Kamarcus West on Easter Sunday.

Ross said Omni will have his initial court appearance sometime in the next two days.

Kaeshawn Turner is also charged in the investigation. Kaeshawn is charged with accessory to first-degree murder and two counts of accessory to aggravated assault.

Kaeshawn turned himself in to Hattiesburg police the same day Omni was arrested in Ohio. Wayne County Justice Court Judge Charles Chapman set bond for Kaeshawn at $5 million.

According to investigators with the Waynesboro Police Department, the shooting that claimed West’s life was one instance in a series of gang-related crimes that left the community on edge in recent weeks.

WPD Chief Investigator Don Hopkins said Omni and Kaeshawn are both known members of the Vice Lords street gang.

Residents have spoken out over the violence, saying gang-related crime gives the city a bad name and needs to stop.
