HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Jane Granberry is a Junior at Oak Grove Highschool and the newest Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teen.
"It has been a whirlwind since I was crowned, but it’s the most exciting thing that’s ever happened to me,” said Granberry.
The Miss Mississippi Outstanding Teen is a scholarship pageant for girls aged 13 to 17. Before being crowned the State Outstanding Teen, Granberry first represented the Hub City as Miss Hattiesburg Outstanding Teen.
She says her aunt is the one who encouraged her to participate in the competition.
"I wanted to do a scholarship type pageant, but I just didn’t know what I wanted to do. My aunt came up to me and said I think Outstanding Teen has a lot of things that would be really good for you and I think you would really enjoy it,” said Granberry.
She is now getting ready for the State Miss Mississippi pageant while also preparing for the Miss America Outstanding Teen competition this summer.
"I’m currently preparing for that with interview prep and finding my wardrobe. It’s been a lot of fun,” said Granberry. She wants to encourage anyone who wants to be a part of this program to do so.
“Definitely, take the opportunity,” Granberry said. “It is so much fun and so rewarding I want every girl to experience this like I have. I’ve grown more as a person beyond this whole competition. You can take away the whole competition aspect of it and I’ve just grown so much and I’m really proud of that myself and I know every other girl has grown so much and really grown as people and as young women.”
The National pageant will be in Orlando during July. The state Miss Mississippi Pageant will be in Vicksburg June 19-22.
