POPLARVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Work on two new residence halls on the Poplarville campus of Pearl River Community College is about to get started.
Bids on the $13 million project were opened Thursday and the school’s Board of Trustees will give its final approval for construction next week.
The dorms will be built on a practice field west of the football stadium.
New turf is being installed at the stadium, so practices can be held at that location.
“We’re going to use that now for our practice facility,” said Adam Breerwood, president of PRCC. “We’re also going to use it for all of our camps, our community events, and so, right now, we don’t have any grass on our football field. Dirt has been removed and they’re starting on the first step of installing turf and so, hopefully that will be down mid-June.”
Breerwood says the turf is being replaced for about $600,000.
He says the new residence halls should be open in the spring of 2021.
