LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The City of Laurel will look a little more patriotic after accepting a generous flag donation.
Mayor Johnny Magee accepted the donation of 65 flags from The Mississippi Chapter 173 of Woodmen Life Insurance Society, one of the largest flag providers in the country.
The flags will be installed on street lamps in downtown Laurel on Magnolia Street and Central Avenue. They will be on display starting Memorial Day and will remain in place until July 4.
“This is a great service Woodmen Life provides to the city,” Magee said. "Their donation of 65 new American flags saved the city money in replacement costs for the downtown display. It is nice to have citizens who respect and honor our city and country and are committed to helping the city in this way.”
Magee said the city will begin installing the flags in the coming weeks.
