Suspect in shooting of Jefferson Davis Co. deputy arrested after standoff
JEFFERSON DAVIS COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - One person was arrested, and a sheriff’s deputy was injured following a Friday night standoff in Jefferson Davis County.
Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Sgt. Travis Luck said MHP was notified that a Jefferson Davis County deputy was involved in a shooting on Highway 42 near Duckworth.
According to a release from the Jefferson Davis County Sheriff’s Office, the standoff began when a deputy responded to a call around 9 p.m. and encountered a subject who said, “he wasn’t going to jail.”
The suspect retrieved a gun and shot the deputy in the leg. The deputy was taken to the hospital by another deputy who was also responding to the call.
“The deputy that was shot in doing fine and is home recovering,” the released stated.
Authorities said early in the standoff, the suspect opened the front door of a trailer and shot at officers. A SWAT team entered in the front of the trailer and the suspect fired more shots at officers.
The standoff ended after authorities said the suspect came out and was taken into custody.
Authorities are not releasing the name of the suspect at this time, but they said the suspect is facing multiple charges.
Multiple agencies including the Mississippi Highway Patrol, Mississippi Bureau of Narcotics, and Mississippi Bureau of Investigation assisted in the standoff.
