Pine Belt mail center sees spike in Amazon packages

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Nowadays, you don’t have to visit a store, you can just download an app, click a button and then have a package of what you need at your front door.

Bernard Jackson said that he has been a faithful Amazon shopper for at least 10 years. He shops online for everything for his family and his company, Jackson Auto Sales in Petal.

“It helps me out with my customer service because I get products to my customers a lot sooner so they’re happy,” said Bernard.

We talked with owner of Liberty Mail Center in Hattiesburg, Brenden Trussell, and he said that it’s a lot of hard work when several packages come in, especially from Amazon. Trussell said that he has a part-time employee that eventually turns into a full-time employee because of the business with packages.

Trussell said a lot of Amazon boxes can be found not only in his mail center but being disbursed to residents that have a mail box at the center.

“We rent mail boxes here. We have about 100 mail box renters here right now,” said Trussell. “Around the holidays, packages increase typically dies down during the summer because most people are vacationing."

The increase of orders continues after Amazon announced that the company will soon promise one-day delivery for its U.S. Prime members on most items.

According to the Associated Press, the company hopes that the cutting delivery times in half will make its $119-a year Prime membership more attractive.
