PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Summer means warmer weather and people relying on their air conditioners to stay cool.
Which is why regular inspections and checkups on heating, air ventilation and cooling (HVAC) units are important.
Regular inspections include cleaning and maintenance checkups on HVAC systems.
“Clean is efficient. Efficient means you are reducing your energy consumption,” said Sunrise Heat and Air LLC owner Nick Hutto. “You are reducing the wear and tear on your HVAC system and you are allowing it to work more efficiently, which, in turn, keeps your house cool in the summer and hot in the winter.”
One thing you can do at home to help this process is to keep your unit clean.
"Trimmings and debris from when we blow our driveways and stuff off tends to accumulate on these coals and it doesn’t allow the air to flow in and come out the top. It doesn’t allow the air to flow correctly or efficiently,” said Hutto.
If your unit does go out, you are encouraged to turn it off and call a certified technician.
“When you have these annual cleanings done, they are done by a certified technician,” Hutto said. “This reduces the likelihood of something being broken in your unit and to also make sure everything is done thoroughly and properly and put back together.”
If HVAC units are not properly taken care of, people could be looking at hundreds of dollars in repairs.
