Covington Hospital CEO also administrator of Magee General
COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - The leadership of Covington County Hospital and Magee General Hospital has been put into the hands of one person.
Gregg Gibbes will serve as administrator and CEO for both hospitals for the time being.
An agreement between the two hospitals went into effect two weeks ago.
Covington County Hospital is a county-owned, non-profit facility, while Magee General Hospital is private and non-profit.
But, it filed for bankruptcy last August.
Gibbes said the new agreement will benefit both facilities.
“We’ve talked at length about how we can meet the needs of both facilities, so we came up with the term “coopetition,” where we can compete in certain aspects and we can cooperate in other aspects,” said Gibbes. “That’s what it’s going to take for rural hospitals to survive is finding your niche and sticking in it and being the best at what you can be.”
Magee General is one of four rural hospitals in Mississippi to file for bankruptcy in the last nine months.
