SUMRALL, MS (WDAM) - Sumrall and St. Stanislaus share a rich history in Mississippi high school baseball
Both clubs captured a state championship in 2015 – the Bobcats in class 3A and the Rock-a-chaws in class 4A.
However, Thursday’s quarterfinal matchup will be their first meeting on the baseball field – at least in Sumrall coach Larry Knight’s 13 seasons.
"[St. Stanislaus is] always playing a tough schedule,” Knight said. “They're at this point for a reason. They of course beat Purvis, beat Northeast Lauderdale, won their division. So, we know they're going to be a tough contest for us going forward."
“I think it’s going to take grit, and I think our team has grit,” said Sumrall senior infielder Zane Berry. “We have a lot of gritty players and I think we’re just built for the moments like that – the big moments and we’re going to come through clutch.”
