PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Residents at the Bedford Care Center in Petal had the chance to live out their younger days for a Senior Senior prom.
"I don’t know who’s having more fun, the seniors or the high schoolers,” said Valerie Wilson, Executive Director for Petal Chamber of Commerce.
It was an Old Hollywood Red Carpet Affair on Sunday afternoon for the Bedford Care Center Senior Senior prom.
The prom was put on by the Petal High School Ambassadors as one of their major community service projects.
“My great-great grandma just became a resident here last June,” explained Petal Ambassador Mallory Extine. "She always talked about how bored she was because there is not much to do. I decided to come up with this because she always talked about how much she likes to see us in our prom dresses and all our pictures. I thought, why not bring it here.”
Students had the opportunity to get to know residents while also dancing the afternoon away.
"I think it’s important for our kids to understand that everybody has a story. Their lives, their backgrounds and their history. We tend to look at older people and forget that they have a fabulous wealth of information. Our kids here are having an opportunity to learn and talk and visit with these wonderful human beings here,” said Wilson.
Students said events like this help them branch out and meet new people.
"It’s just a really good opportunity for us to be able to get to know the people in our community instead of just the people we go to school with,” said Extine.
Everyone at the prom seem to be having a great time.
