HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - At three years of age, Picasso Nelson Jr. remembers telling his dad that he would be in the NFL one day.
Nelson is one step closer to that dream after signing an undrafted free agent contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars on Saturday.
“You work your whole life and put it all on the line every day to get an opportunity like this so it feels good to see the hard work paying off,” Nelson said. “Obviously, there’s a lot more work to be done and I’m definitely willing to put in the work.”
Nelson received the call about an hour after the 2019 NFL Draft ended. A two-star prospect coming out of Oak Grove High School, Nelson played four years in the defensive backfield at Southern Miss.
The Jaguars did not draft any defensive backs this year, but did sign Ole Miss safety Zedric Woods and Alabama cornerback Saivion Smith to UDFA deals as well.
“The first step has been taken as far as getting my foot in the door,” Nelson said. “I thank God for that...I want to be a Jaguar. [Jacksonville]’s my favorite city right now.”
Nelson flies to Jacksonville on May 9 to prepare for rookie minicamp which begins May 13. The Jaguars begin OTA workouts on May 21.
