HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - About one dozen different service organizations gathered at the Sherrill Community Center in Hattiesburg Thursday for an event to aid the area’s special needs community.
An annual Disability Awareness Day brought together groups like Pine Belt Mental Healthcare Resources, Living Independence for Everyone (LIFE) and the Institute for Disability Studies at the University of Southern Mississippi.
They provided information about medical resources, housing assistance and insurance coverage.
“We try to bring in vendors to try and reach out to the community to let them know what resources are available for the disability community,” said Tonya Jordan, neighborhood coordinator for the city of Hattiesburg.
This was the 4th year for the event.
