Storm shelters in Forrest, Jones counties open

PINE BELT (WDAM) - Storm shelters in Forrest and Jones counties have opened for people needing a safe place to stay during the strong storms expected to blow through the Pine Belt today.

These shelters will remain open through the severe weather event:

  • Forrest County 361 Shelter: 946 Sullivan Drive in Hattiesburg
  • Jones County FEMA 361 Shelter: 1425 Ellisville Boulevard in Laurel

A tornado watch has been issued for the entire WDAM viewing area until 3 p.m.

Storms will move through the area between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m. Between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., there is the chance for those storms to become severe with the potential to produce a tornado.
