Top of Class 2019 continues a long tradition of academic excellence

ELLISVILLE, MS (WDAM) - The cream of the crop in academic achievement from area schools received recognition Wednesday at Jones College during the annual Top of Class Event.

WDAM and Jones College proudly hosted the event, which honors the valedictorians and salutatorians from 50 schools across South Mississippi.

Dedication, sacrifice and perseverance led up to this moment for these deserving high school seniors. The Top of Class students poured into their studies, earning the honors of valedictorians and salutatorians at their respective schools.

The keynote speaker for the event was our very own Chief Meteorologist Nick Lilja. He talked about the importance of adaptability to the high-achieving students.

There was a sense of pride among the crowd as the graduation caps flew after a group photo.

Jones College offers each student invited to Top of Class a Presidential Scholarship. Jones College President Dr. Jesse Smith said the scholarships are a reward for achievement and a welcome to the Bobcat family.
