JASPER COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The East Jasper Consolidated School District will resume classes on Thursday after evacuating three schools Wednesday.
A mysterious odor prompted the evacuation and closure of the schools on Wednesday morning.
Superintendent Nadene Arrington confirmed that the schools would resume regular schedules on Thursday.
Arrington said the schools were evacuated before 11 a.m. due to what was believed to be a gas leak. Arrington said students were dismissed for the rest of the day while utility crews investigated the source of the odor.
Mike Lucas, with the Jasper County Emergency Management Agency, said no gas leak was found and the source of the mysterious odor was not identified. Lucas said the odor appeared to be cleared out of the area by Wednesday afternoon.
