WAYNE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - WDAM is learning more about the brutal attack in Wayne County last week that left one man injured.
The victim’s family spoke on Tuesday, telling WDAM Trevor Gray has had to undergo extensive surgeries and operations following the attack.
“Trevor, if you know him and know his personality, he is upbeat and he is positive,” said his older brother, Cruz Gray.
Trevor Gray, 27, was the victim of a vicious aggravated assault that unfolded in the early morning hours of April 13 in Wayne County. Cruz stood next to Wayne County Sheriff Jody Ashley Tuesday describing the beating his younger brother suffered.
“His jaw was broken I believe on the left side. It was also broken in the middle under this bone. It was broken in two. His mouth is wired shut to immobilize that area and will be for the next four to six weeks,” Cruz said.
The video that surfaced on social media depicts the brutal attack and is now key evidence in this case.
“This is a very emotionally charged video," Cruz said. "One thing I’ve tried to keep in mind throughout all of this is these kinds of attacks happen on people everyday for being different in one way or another. Trevor is a little different. He marches to the beat of his own drum and we are thankful for the video and helping them pursue the people who did this.”
“We are not ruling out anything. If something else leads us down this road we will go on every lead. Like I said from the very get go, no stone will be unturned,” Sheriff Ashley said.
Tomas Brown, 28, and 32-year-old Landon McCaa were arrested and charged with aggravated assault in the case. Ashley said as of right now, no one else is facing any charges in this ongoing investigation.
The Gray family said they will continue to fight for Trevor’s justice.
According to the victim’s brother, Trevor and the two men arrested only knew each other “in passing.”
