LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Laurel police released the identity of a woman who was found dead behind a vacant home on April 9.
On Monday police identified the woman as 39-year-old Teeka Hemphill Carnegie, who had no address in this area. Carnegie’s relatives in Louisiana and Texas have been notified.
Laurel Police Department Lt. Michael Reeves said the body was found behind a vacant home on South 13th Avenue by a grass cutting crew around 2:20 p.m. on April 9. Reeves said the body was decomposed and appeared to have been there for some time.
Carnegie’s body was sent to state medical examiners for an autopsy. LPD is awaiting the results of the autopsy to determine cause of death and whether foul play was involved.
