HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) _ Junior Tre’Antenius Brooks won both the high and long jumps and William Carey University swept the top three medals in steeplechase as the sixth-ranked Crusaders won the 2019 Southern States Athletic Conference Men’s Track and Field Championship.

Carey finished with 229 points in the two-day event held at the WCU Track & Field Complex. Brewton Parker College finished second with 165 points.

Brooks won the high jump by clearing 6 feet, 8 ¼ inches and took first in the long jump with a leap 24 feet, 1 ½ inches.

Junior William Neese won the 3,000-meter steeplechase in 10 minutes, 10.23 seconds. Freshman Hayden Shows finished second in 10:24.21 and senior Tyler Warren took third place in 10:29.51.

  • 200 meters: 1st _ Fred Campbell, 21.69 seconds; 2nd_ Quinton Pennells, 21.99
  • 400 meters: 2nd _ Toluwani Adebakin, 48.61 seconds; 3rd_ Ngoni Chadyiwa, 49.88
  • 1,500 meters: 2nd _ Cooper Herrington, 4 minutes, 3.41 seconds; 3rd _ Sebastian Fauconnier, 4:04.23
  • 5,000 meters: 3rd _ Fauconnier, 16 minutes, 13.57 seconds
  • 110-meter hurdles: 2nd _ Shakim Buckley, 15.37 seconds
  • 400-meter hurdles: 1st Buckley, 54.64 seconds; 3rd _ Martin Ortiz, 56.87
  • High jump: 2nd _ Tito Turner, 6 feet, 6 ¼ inches; 3rd _ Malik Crandle, 6-6 ¼
  • Long jump: 2nd _Kaleb Clark, 23 feet, 10 inches; 3rd _ Derrick Jordan II, 23- ¾
  • Triple jump: 1st _ Crandle, 48 feet, 6 inches; 3rd _ Brooks, 45-2 ½
  • Javelin: 1st _ Jack Scafide, 162 feet, 11 inches
  • 4X100-meter relay: 1st _ Campbell, Daryon Jackson, Garrick Randolph, Dante Brown, 41.79 seconds
  • 4X400-meter relay: 1st _ Adebakin, Pennells, Chadiwya, Eric Stephens, 3 minutes, 19.79 seconds
  • 4X800-meter relay: 1st _ Jace Peters, Aleksander Kirlov, Zachary Fielder, Scadfide, 8 minutes, 16.02 seconds
