AL dad designs truck to raise awareness for autism

Man's truck design creates awareness about autism

TUSCALOOSA, AL (WBRC) - A Tuscaloosa dad is using a truck to raise awareness about autism and the timing is just right because April is World Autism Awareness month.

Nick Hallum saw a need to create a truck that would do just that to get the word out about autism.

Hallum’s truck has puzzle piece designs on it with the names and birthdays of children who have autism. Some of the kids are local, but others are from other states and even countries like Australia, where parents reached out to him when they saw pictures of his truck online.

Nick has a friend whose child has autism and that’s where he originally got the idea to design the truck and spread awareness.

“About three years after starting that truck, I found out my youngest daughter is autistic, so it made me want to do it even more. When she was real young she couldn’t talk, we had to put her in speech therapy. But the more she is involved and we all work on it, the better she gets,” said Hallum.

Nick hopes to eventually expand and add more names to the truck, then take pictures of the truck for the kids and send it to them on their birthdays.
