PETAL, MS (WDAM) - Families are still rebuilding after the devastation left by the tornado that struck the Pine Belt in 2017. With the help of community organizations like R3SM, Inc. and members of Orland Park Christian Reformed Church, one couple affected will be able to move back into their home.
“We’ve been fighting for three years almost just to get our lives back together and lived homeless for a little while until things... got back straighten,” said homeowner James Walker.
Orland Park presented a $15,000 check to the completion of the house during the home dedication. In total, 28 homes have been rebuilt after the tornado. Right now, there are three more homes being constructed.
“We’re very thankful for all of the partners who come together..." R3SM executive director Mavis Creagh said. “We’ve had volunteers as far as Canada who have come... it’s a labor of love.”
