LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - The International House of Pancakes in Laurel closed its doors for good Monday. A note posted on the restaurant’s door said the location will be closed permanently.
The letter, written directly to IHOP associates, said their employment was terminated effective Monday.
Carolyn Lewis, a former employee, said she was caught off guard when she found out that she no longer has a job.
“They shut the doors on us today, and we don’t know why,” said Lewis. “We were told that they sold out and that it maybe another business coming.”
Lewis said what makes the closure worse is the work she and other employees put in to attract customers to the business.
“I came back to this store to try to help get this place back in order to get our business back, and we started that. We were successful in getting our business back and now, all of a sudden, they’re telling us that they’re shutting the doors this morning,” said Lewis.
According to Lewis, she’s now left wondering what’s next after losing her only source of income.
“I’m just heartbroken because I loved my job, I love what I do and I’m really emotional right now, because I don’t know what I’m gone do. This was my only source of income. Nothing else,” said Lewis.
