HEIDELBERG, MS (WDAM) - The only grocery store in Heidelberg has closed its door. Greer’s Food Tiger, which opened in 1980, has served the community for nearly 40 years.

The company took to Facebook on Feb. 5 to announce the chain’s closure stating it’s “never an easy decision to close the door, but we all know when one door closes another opens.”

In the post, they thanked the community for their “support through the years” adding that they “pray the best for Heidelberg.” Patrons flooded the comments sections with well wishes and reflections about their local grocery store with many admitting they’d miss the one-stop shop.

Google Maps shows the nearest grocery store is 30 minutes away in Bay Springs. WDAM-TV reached out to Mayor Wilbert Carr, but did not immediately get a response.
