HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) -Hattiesburg’s African-American Military History Museum hosted a day of Black History Month activities just for children Saturday.
It was “Youth Day” at the museum.
Children built model airplanes, painted pictures of trucks and interacted with Louisiana “Buffalo Soldiers” from the Greater New Orleans Area Chapter of the 9th and 10th (Horse) Cavalry Association.
Every activity was based on “Transportation in the Military-African-Americans on the Move," which is the museum’s theme for the 2019 Black History Month celebration.
“We want some hands-on activities for the children to do to keep them engaged, but then, we also tie it back in to what they’re actually learning about the history of the African-American soldier,” said Vanessa Molden, program and engagement coordinator for the African-American Military History Museum.
The museum is also celebrating its 10th anniversary in 2019.
