TAYLORSVILLE, WDAM (MS) - Two Pine Belt teenagers will be heading to Washington, D.C., to take part in a youth leadership program.

Hunter Lee of Taylorsville High School and Ethan McNair of Presbyterian Christian School were selected to represent Southern Pine Electric in the 2019 Youth Leadership Program.

The YPL, now in its 33rd year and sponsored by the Electric Cooperatives of Mississippi, is open to high school juniors in the Southern Pine Electric Service area.

Potential candidates are chosen by school counselors and asked to write an essay. Students are then interviewed by Southern Pine Electric representatives and selected for leadership qualities and involvement in their schools and communities.

Lee and McNair will take part in a three-day workshop in Jackson before heading to Washington, D.C., for seven days. Expenses are paid by Southern Pine Electric.

“We’re very pleased to participate in the Youth Leadership Program and sponsor these outstanding students,” said Jason S. Siegfried, Southern Pine Electric chief executive officer. “It’s so important to invest in our young people.”
