HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Dozens of experts in the areas of banking, finance and academia gathered at the University of Southern Mississippi on Thursday for an annual Economic Outlook Forum for 2019.
The title sponsor for the event was The First, A National Banking Association.
Speakers included Darrin Webb, Mississippi State Economist, and Adrienne Slack, vice-president and regional executive with the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, New Orleans branch.
“We look at the trends that are occurring in the national, state and local economies and it helps us then to be able to better plan for the 2019 year,” said Shannon Campbell, director of the Trent Lott Center at Southern Miss.
“It’s grown every year, it’s become really a signature event for us,” said Hoppy Cole, president and CEO of The First Bancshares, Inc.
During the event, Webb said he expected Mississippi’s economy to grow by just over one percent in 2019.
