HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Southern Miss has won four straight games and seven of its last nine.
The Golden Eagles (15-9) sit in fifth place in the Conference USA standings at 7-5.
However, coach Doc Sadler knows that there is a lot of basketball left this season. The fifth-year USM coach would like to see his team close games out better than Saturday’s overtime win over Louisiana Tech.
“If you’re playing for anything and you’re playing good teams, the game’s going to come down to the last five minutes,” Sadler said. “There’s not going to be any blowouts. You’re talking about a team [in UTSA] that we’re going to play Thursday night that is basically in first place [in C-USA]. You’re going to have to execute on the defensive end, you’re going to have to execute on the offensive end, and you can’t make mistakes because obviously they’ve proven over 12 games that they’re a darn good basketball team.” “We just got to keep our concentration,” said USM senior guard Kevin Holland. “We’re on a win streak right now and things are kinda getting a little lax. [Sadler’s] just preaching that we need to keep doing what we need to do to keep winning games and finish down the stretch.”
