MONTGOMERY, AL (WDAM) _ Guard Cotoria Blackman came off the bench Saturday for 11 points, including a key steal and layup in the fourth quarter, as William Carey University downed Faulkner University 54-48 at Tine Davis Gymnasium.
Blackman’s defensive prowess that floor-length drive lifted the Lady Crusaders into a 49-45 lead with less than four minutes to play.
Faulkner guard Micala Fisanick hit a 3-pointer to get the host Lady Eagles within a point, but Carey knocked down 5-of-6 free throws down the stretch to pocket the Southern States Athletic Conference victory.
Forward Destiny Williams led the Lady Crusaders (9-11, 8-8 SSAC) with 13 points and six rebounds. Blackman added five rebounds, while reserve guard Danyelle Lewis had 10 points and four rebounds.
Guard Valentina Klocker had 10 points, five rebounds and three assists for Faulkner (12-12, 5-10) while Fisanick added 10 points.
The Lady Crusaders host Loyola University at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Clinton Gymnasium.
