MOUNT OLIVE, MS (WDAM) - It was a special night in Covington County as the city of Mount Olive honored one its sons - Fred Mcnair.
The former Pirates quarterback went on to play college football at Alcorn State. For the past three years, McNair has coached the Braves to three SWAC East division titles and the 2018 SWAC championship.
A ton of great stories were shared from fellow coaches and community members about Fred “Air” McNair, including a particularly funny one about his high school playing days. The Mayor of Mount Olive, Cliff Kelly, recounted the story that former Pirates head football coach Sonny Magee told him.
In one of McNair’s first games at Mount Olive, he threw three interceptions in the first half. In the locker room at halftime, Magee sat next to McNair and said, “Son, we’re wearing the white jerseys.”
