BAY SPRING, MS (WDAM) - BayFest activities could move if the town’s board of aldermen vote to have the event on the outskirts of town. The idea was brought up during Tuesday’s board of aldermen meeting.

BayFest was created in 1991 by Mayor J.E. Smith to recognize residents as well as Mississippians in the armed forces at the end of Desert Storm. Smith, who was initially opposed to the idea, said he would support the majority decision. The four-day event includes a carnival, various vendors, food and music concerts.

During the meeting, alderman Bob Cook expressed that he felt the move would benefit not only vendors, but also residents. He said the move would allow more space for carnival vendors.

The board agreed to research the pros and cons of moving the event before making a decision.
