SANDERSVILLE, MS (WDAM) - Sunday is going to be a big day for football and sports betting in Mississippi.
It will be the first time that Mississippians can legally bet on the Super Bowl in the Magnolia State.
Sports betting was made legal just a few months ago, but you have to do that in a casino, like the Bok Homa in Sandersville.
The staff there are gearing up for a busy weekend of wagering.
“There has been some early Super Bowl betting, right, now, most of the money seems to be on the Patriots, but we’ll see how it goes,” said Jason York, executive director of development and operations for Pearl River Resort. “We’re very very excited to see what the turnout is going to be, it’s going to be a first for us.”
The casino will also launch a new mobile betting app this Saturday.
“It’s the first in the State of Mississippi, it’s the first mobile betting app,” said York.
“Once you have the app, you’ll have access to see all of our betting lines that are available, but you do have to be on our casino premises in order to actually place a bet.”
Bok Homa Casino opened eight years ago.
It’s Sports Book opened last September.
