HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) _ The statistics say that University of Southern Mississippi junior forward Leonard Harper-Baker has been one the best players for the Golden Eagles this season.
Monday, Harper-Baker was tabbed as the best player in Conference USA last week.
Harper-Baker turned in consecutive double-doubles, averaging 16.5 points and 14.5 rebounds as the Golden Eagles split a pair of C-USA home games with Western Kentucky University and Marshall University.
He made 14-of-21 field-goal attempts (66.7 percent) and 4-of-7 free-throw attempts (57.1 percent)
In a 66-63 loss to WKU, Harper-Baker hit 7-of-12 shots, scoring 18 points and grabbing 15 rebounds.
In USM’s 101-51 victory over Marshall, Harper-Baker made 7-of-9 shots, scoring 15 points and grabbing 14 rebounds.
He became the first Golden Eagle since Charles Gaines in 2004 to grab at least 29 rebounds in two games. Harper-Baker’s seven field goals in each game set single-game personal bests.
Harper-Baker became the first Golden Eagle to post back-to-back double-double games since his teammate, senior guard Cortez Edwards turned the trick in January 2018.
The Detroit native ranks third among C-USA rebounders, averaging 9.7 rebounds a game, and has posted four double-doubles this season.
