HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - With the closure of Mr. Gatti’s Pizza,, there’s one less place for young children to gather to celebrate birthday parties or people to host a family-friendly event at a venue that serves up copious amounts of pizza and entertainment.

Established in Austin in 1969, Mr. Gatti’s was started by James Eure. According to their website, Eure created the restaurant as a “tribute” to his father-in-law. But, it wasn’t until 1983 that Gatti Town--- a 25, 000 square foot superstore with 10, 000 square feet for a “colossal Midway-type game room" was built. It was during this time, they dubbed themselves “the best pizza in town.”

Now, over 35 years later, the owner of the company has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy. Sovrano LLC, an affiliate of the Forth Worth-based private equity firm FundCorp Inc,, filed the paperwork on Jan. 4, according to the Austin Business Journal.

A company representative told WDAM-TV, “the Hattiesburg store, a corporate store, was closed Sunday in the ordinary course of business.”

Mr. Gatti’s Pizza has 69 franchises and 81 locations across the country. The Hattiesburg restaurant was the only location in Mississippi.
