Disabled veteran assistance organization looking to start Hub City chapter

HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - An organization that renovates homes for wounded veterans with disabilities is hoping to start a permanent chapter in Hattiesburg.

Purple Heart Homes hosted a chapter formation meeting Wednesday morning at the Hub City’s Jackie Dole Sherrill Community Center.

Purple Heart Homes does work, such as widening doorways, building wheelchair ramps and modifying bathrooms, for qualified veterans with disabilities.

Purple Heart Homes has 11 chapters in eight states and has overseen the completion of more than 140 projects across the country, including several in Hattiesburg. In fact, the organization was recently involved in a partnership called Operation Veteran Home Renovation that worked on home renovations for three Hub City veterans.
