HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Bond was set Monday for a man charged with second-degree murder in connection with the stabbing death of a man in Hattiesburg on Sunday morning.
Jeremy Underwood, 32, is accused of fatally stabbing a man in 1200 block of Ida Avenue, according to police. His bond was set at $100,000.
Forrest County Deputy Coroner Lisa Klem identified the victim as 36-year-old Marcus Steele, of Hattiesburg.
As the investigation went on, police later learned that Underwood and Steele knew each other and were having an ongoing dispute.
Underwood requested a preliminary hearing in Hattiesburg Municipal Court during his bond hearing Monday.
According to HPD spokesperson Ryan Moore, this is Hattiesburg’s first homicide investigation of 2019.
