JACKSON, MS (WLBT) - Mississippians who depend on SNAP to buy food are getting next month's benefits early.
The Department of Human Services is announcing benefits for February will be made by Jan. 20 because of the partial government shutdown.
SNAP recipients or the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program are also being urged to prepare for the possibility that benefits may not be available for several months if the shutdown continues.
DHS said this is not an extra payment or bonus. The benefits are intended to cover food purchases for February.
