POPLARVILE, MS (WDAM) _ Brandon Rachal posted his third double-double in a row and 17th-ranked Pearl River Community College ran away Thursday to a 99-66 victory over East Central Community College.
Rachal went for 16 points and 12 rebounds, matching Kelvin Allen as Wildcats’ scorer. Eric Thornton Jr. LaGarious White each scored 13 points and Jonas James III added 10 points.
“With this one game, even though we won by 33 points, I thought we learned as much as we did from the Coahoma game, which was our closest game of the season,” PRCC coach Chris Oney said “I’m proud of them. It was fun. We had a chance to learn some things. We had a lead and they came back and we had to rebuild the lead and then hold on.”
The Wildcats (11-0, 2-0 South Division) led 48-33 at halftime before East Central (7-4, 0-2) cut the lead back to eight points, 52-44, early in the second half.
But PRCC clamped down from there, growing the lead to the point that Oney was able to empty the Wiildcats’ bench.
East Central standout Roti Ware, who was averaging 26.7 points per game, was limited to just one basket and six points.
The Wildcats will host archrival Jones College (8-3, 2-0) at 7: 30 p.m. Monday at Marvin R. White Coliseum.
