BLUE MOUNTAIN, MS (WDAM) _ A 3-point basket by senior point guard Javonte McDonald capped a second-half run that lifted No. 22 William Carey University into the lead for good and the Crusaders went on to a 74-70 victory Thursday night at Blue Mountain College.
Carey (11-4) remained unbeaten in Southern States Athletic Conference at 7-0 as the Crusaders rallied from a 45-41 halftime deficit to win their fourth consecutive game and 10th in their last 11.
Blue Mountain (7-5, 1-5 SSAC) went 8-of-16 beyond the 3-point arc in the first half to take the lead. But the Toppers shot just 32 percent in the second half and missed all six of their 3-point attempts after the break.
The Crusaders used a 14-5 run to grab a 64-57 lead with 10 minutes, 13 seconds, to play in the game. Blue Mountain pulled within a point twice, but the Crusaders answered with baskets on both occasions to keep the Toppers at bay.
