HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - Kennedy Gavin grew up attending Lady Eagle basketball games.
Suiting up for the black and gold the last two seasons has been a dream come true for the Petal native. Gavin has had the chance to contribute even more in her sophomore campaign – averaging 3.4 points per game in 12.3 minutes per game.
“I’ve been coming to basketball games since I was little,” Gavin said. “My aunt, she’s an alumni here so she used to bring me to the basketball games, bring me to the football games. So, I like grew up around Southern Miss. It seems like I’ve known coach McNelis for forever. It seems like she’s watched me grow up basically.”
“As a person, she is a special young lady,” said USM women’s basketball coach Joye Lee-McNelis. “She is a great student in the classroom. She can out-run people and she’s stronger, and she can be quicker laterally to get around people. And those are things that Kennedy is learning as her new role that she has to do. But Kennedy has a great future ahead of her and I think she will make many things happen as she’s wearing the black and gold.”
