GREENE COUNTY, MS (WDAM) - The Greene County Sheriff’s Department announced Sunday, Jan. 6 that their search for a missing teenager was over and she had been found safe.
Veronica Platt, 16, went missing after she was last seen on Dec. 26 with 20-year-old Tyler Wood, a former Forrest County Election Commissioner, at the home of Wood’s mother in Hattiesburg.
According to authorities, Veronica met Wood online and the two started dating. Wood reportedly lied about his age to her parents and grandparents, telling them that he was 17. Brad Warrick, Greene County Chief Deputy, said the day before their disappearance, Veronica’s parents and grandparents began questioning Wood regarding his age, which irritated him.
Wood’s mother told investigators the couple stopped by her home the day after Christmas for 20 to 30 minutes. After the two left, Wood’s mother discovered that $2,500 was missing from the home.
According to Warrick, Wood turned himself in to authorities Sunday morning and was booked in the Greene County jail on a charge of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. His bond was set at $2,500 during a court hearing Monday.
