COLLINS, MS (WDAM) - Part of the old Covington County jail is being turned into a new office for a county official.
The former inmate holding area is being converted into an office, classrooms and a conference room for county fire coordinator Drew Craft.
The work should be finished in a couple of months.
“We’re going to be able to keep all our information for one, all our maps and just all the resources kind of in one spot, so it’s going to make an incredible difference,” said Craft.
On Highway 49 at Kola Road, a new restaurant opened Friday, in what was an old service station that closed after Hurricane Katrina.
“601 Social Eatery” is the first new restaurant to open in Collins in a year.
“We pride ourselves in New Orleans-based food,” said LaKisha Thomas, co-owner of the restaurant. “We wanted to bring a little of New Orleans to the small town of Collins.”
The Covington County Chamber of Commerce moved into another part of the old jail about nine months ago.
