Fate of Hattiesburg traffic cameras to be decided

HATTEISBURG, MS (WDAM) - The fate of Hattiesburg's proposal to install traffic cameras is now in the Governor's hands.

A bill prohibiting the installation of any new cameras to catch traffic violators has passed the state House and Senate.

Mayor Johnny Dupree and other city leaders once supported installing new cameras, but that proposal has stalled.

Jackson and Columbus already have cameras, but if the governor signs the bill, those cities would have until Oct. 1 to get rid of them.
