USM returns to normal operations following bomb threat

HATTIESBURG, MISS (WDAM) - Classes have resumed at Southern Miss following a bomb threat earlier today (Tuesday).


The Liberal Arts Building at The University of Southern Mississippi was emptied at 11:45 a.m. following a bomb threat called in to University Police between 10:30 and 11 a.m., authorities said.


The building was evacuated shortly after, and an Eagle Alert text message was sent to the campus community.


University Police completed a thorough search of the building and determined it was safe for occupancy by noon.


Officials canceled all 11 a.m. classes in the building.


All other classes will go on as scheduled.
