Fillingane petitioning voter I.D.

JACKSON, MS (WDAM) - Republican Senator Joey Fillingane is petitioning to let Mississippi voters decide whether they should show identification at the polls.

Fillingane filed an initiative with the Mississippi Secretary of State office, but he will have to gather tens of thousands of signatures before the measure would be put before voters.

The Republican's petition would require everyone to present identification, except people living and voting in state-licensed care facilities, and voters whose religious beliefs prohibit them from being photographed would have to vote by affidavit ballot.

Voter ID is among the bills still pending in this year's legislative session.
