Dance group holds instructional workshop in Hattiesburg

HATTIESBURG, MS (wdam) - Several hundred aspiring young dancers were at the Lake Terrace Convention Center Sunday taking part in instructional workshops.

The workshops, hosted by Dance Teachers United were open to dancers from age 6 to 22.

Dancers received instruction in several different styles including ballet, tap, and hip-hop. The weekend events started with a dance competition at the Saenger Theater featuring dancers from eight states.

The non-profit organization is made up of about 400 dance teachers from eight states across the South and holds the competition and workshop three times a year.

"We actually provide a unique opportunity for people top come together, learn from educators from all over the world and get the latest techniques, the latest styles, as well as get some of the greatest music in the world to bring back to their local studios so that they can actually come back to the studios and enrich their own programs," said Blake Coheley, president of Dance Teachers United.
