Laurel holds three-day celebration of King's life

LAUREL, MS (WDAM) - Activities continued in Laurel Saturday to celebrate the life and work of Martin Luther King Junior.

The congregation of Sweet Hope Baptist Church gathered for their annual memorial service in remembrance of King.

The theme of the service was "A Change is Coming," and is part of a three-day celebration of King which started Saturday with a parade in his honor and an oratorical contest on his life.

Several people at the service reflected on how the accomplishments of King helped America elect its first black president, Barack Obama.

The celebration of King's life continues today (Monday) with a prayer breakfast at 9 a.m. at the Laurel Train Station, followed by a wreath laying at noon at the court house.
