HATTIESBURG, MS (WDAM) - A Pearl River County inmate who escaped Saturday with the help of his girlfriend is back in custody after a gun battle.
Authorities spotted the two in Hancock County late Saturday night. Scooter Robinson and Michelle Morris did not go peacefully.
Witnesses said they heard as many as 25 shots fired. One witness said he saw a car burst into flames.
We are told Robinson was taken to the hospital and Morris was taken to jail.
Saturday, Robinson was able to escape from a corrections officer after receiving treatment at a hospital.
He jumped into a car parked next to the transporting vehicle; inside was his girlfriend, and the two were able to drive away.
